Leaving Mauritius

The main reason for coming to Mauritius was to experience life in a country where Christianity is not the dominant religion. We figured this would change us and our perspective. It did both.

The main reason for leaving Mauritius is a concern about medical care. One of us is over 80, another is over 55 and the third is almost 50. We are entering or have entered that time of life when preventative maintenance is critical for longevity. Also, the risk of needing emergency medical care is increasing as we age, and getting emergency care in Mauritius in anything under an hour is pretty much unheard of.

Therefore we are leaving…in the middle of a pandemic. This can be looked at as either the best of times to go or the worst of times. Who knows? It will be an adventure, that’s for sure.

Next few posts will be reflections on life in Mauritius, planning travel during a pandemic and the bittersweet of saying goodbye.
